چکیده
ba ckground: mosquitoes are well known as vectors of several disease causing pathogens. the extensive use of synthetic insecticides in the mosquito control strategies resulted to the development of pesticide resistance and fos- tered environmental deterioration. hence in recent years plants become alternative source of mosquito control agents. the present study assessed the larvicidal and oviposition altering activity of six different plants species- alstonia scholaris , callistemon viminalis , hyptis suaveolens , malvastrum coromandelianum , prosopis juliflora , vernonia cinerea against aedes albopictus mosquito in laboratory. m e t hods: leaf extracts of all the six plants species in five different solvents of various polarities were used in the range of 20–400ppm for larval bioassay and 50,100 and 200ppm for cage bioassay (for the study of oviposition be- havior) against ae. albopictus. the larval mortality data were recorded after 24 h and subjected to probit analysis to determine the lethal concentrations (lc50), while oai (oviposition activity index) was calculated for oviposition altering activity of the plant extracts. results: v ernonia cinerea extract in acetone and c . viminalis extract in isopropanol were highly effective against aedes albopictus larvae with lc50 value 64.57, 71.34ppm respectively. acetone extract of p . juliflora found to be strong oviposition-deterrent which inhibited >2 fold egg laying (oai-0.466) at 100ppm. conclusion: v ernonia cinerea and c . viminallis leaf extracts have the potential to be used as larvicide and p . juliflora as an oviposition-deterrent for the control of ae. albopictus mosquito.

متن کاملScreening of some weeds for larvicidal activity against Aedes albopictus, a vector of dengue and chikungunya.
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Screening of crude extracts of plants facilitates the establishment of highly effective extract for mosquito control. This practice should be preferred before in depth study of plant extracts rather than spending much efforts and energy in detailed examinations for practically ineffective extracts. In this study, leaf powders of four weed plants were used for the quick s...
متن کاملOviposition Habitat Selection of Dengue Vectors, Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus in Response to Fish Predator.
To understand the effects of fish predator's kairomones on Aedes mosquitoes' oviposition, we established an experiment using gravid Aedes females. Kairomones concentrations were established using Hampala macrolepidota. One individual fish was placed inside containers with varying water levels (1 L, 5 L, and 10 L of water). The fish were kept in the containers for 24 hours and were removed immed...
متن کاملCharacterization of dengue virus in Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus spp. of mosquitoes: A study in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan
Dengue is a vector-borne disease caused by dengue virus. According to the recent report of CDC that one-third population of the world are at high risk with Dengue fever. The prevalence of the dengue hemorrhagic fever was found more in tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world. Aedes mosquitoes was reported as the main cause of transmission of dengue virus. So the current study was planned ...

Background and Objective: Dengue fever has become a major public health problem in many world regions due to increased trade, travel, and problems controlling Aedes vectors. This policy brief aims to review, analyze, and present evidence-based policies for dengue prevention and control. Methods: The present research is a compilation of a policy brief in Iran, carried out in 3 stages according ...
متن کاملEffects of Croton rhamnifolioides essential oil on Aedes aegypti oviposition, larval toxicity and trypsin activity.
Although numerous reports are available concerning the larvicidal potential of essential oils, very few investigations have focused on their mechanisms of action. In the present study, we have investigated the chemical composition of the leaf oil of Croton rhamnifolioides during storage and its effects on oviposition and survival of larvae of the dengue fever mosquito Aedes aegypti. In addition...
